Laparoscopic Bitch Spays
It is our firm belief that any procedure which reduces the pain experienced by our patients whilst also limiting possible complications should be offered to all clients and for this reason we can now offer the choice of conventional or laparoscopic spaying of bitches.
We are the first practice in the Worcester and Droitwich area to be able to offer this option and already the majority of bitch spays that we are performing are being carried out by the laparoscopic technique.
As everyone knows most surgery in the human field is carried out by laparoscopic methods or, as it is better known, 'keyhole' surgery. The veterinary profession is only slowly catching up but at MacArthur Barstow and Gibbs we are embracing these new technologies and, in so doing, improving the treatments that we offer.
Laparoscopy enables us to easily perform many surgical procedures that have previously been thought to be too invasive, traumatic or even dangerous to carry out, secure in the knowledge that the patient will recover quickly and with minimal discomfort. This includes procedures such as exploratory laparoscopy, liver biopsies, intestinal pancreatic and kidney biopsies, and gastropexy.
The area where we feel laparoscopy has most benefit on a day to day basis, however, is in the routine neutering of bitches. Our experience shows us that recovery is substantially quicker and practically pain free following laparoscopic spaying as compared to traditional methods. All the feedback that we have received from clients (and more importantly patients) has been hugely positive.
